Having signed to UK independent label Moves Recordings, Naira smashed his way through 2017 and 2018 with tracks such as Nigeria's offical world cup anthem Issa Goal, and the UK Rap/ Afrobeats classic Money on the Road (combined streams & views of 20 million+).

Craving a return to the source of his music, Naira relocated to his birthplace of Lagos in early 2019. Subscribe Past Issues Translate In Lagos, Naira's wild charisma and effortless songwriting saw him explode in fame and influence.

This ascent came at a price. In June, the Lagos-via- Peckham artist found himself arrested by the Nigerian government after his satirical track Am I A Yahoo Boy - a commentary on fraud and Nigeria's colonial history - caused outrage amongst the countries conservative elite.

With his arrest causing mass street protests, the government eased back from it's position and allowed Naira bail. While growing up, Naira Marley had the passion of becoming an MC and voice over artist. Later in his life, he also discovered that he has passion for music and began singing in 2014 with encouragement from some of his friends, which led to the release of his first track, "Marry Juana" featuring Max Twigz, who is one half of the Cannabis Boyz, before releasing his debut EP Gotta Dance in 2015.
